Construction update

We have made some progress, but hit some road-blocks....  we are hoping we get moving again soon.

Snag #1: We had to have the plans changed slightly with regard to how the new garage foundation connects to the existing foundation. The plans used to show connection to the exterior chimney foundation, but the problem is that there was no chimney foundation and it was actually hanging out ~2' over the foundation.  The plans had to be updated to connect to the house foundation instead of the chimney, special inspections had to happen and now we are waiting for the concrete to be be poured. Hopefully concrete is coming soon!

We also will have to deal with the difference in thickness of "thermo-ply" sheeting compared to plywood.  Thermo-ply is a thin material that is designed to provide structural support to your house underneath your siding (sounds pretty important to me).  The issue is that we have to have plywood installed on the new (and some old) areas to provide sheer/structural support and these two have very different thicknesses.  So, even though we are understanding of this issue, but not excited about having to replace some of our siding so that there isn't ~1" difference between thermo-ply areas and plywood areas.

We have made great progress on the design!!!! I’m so glad I decided to hire a designer!!!! See some of the pictures below of what our kitchen will look like!  The designer I picked is FABULOUS!  Her name is Emily Wignall and her website is: http://www.emilywignalldesign.com/

We have had 2 trees cut down in preparation and it really changes the look of our house.  By the way - having a Spiffy Buffy in our front yard is totally cool!

The fun part - the kitchen design!

The dreaded foundation snag...

More foundation being prepped for concrete - the new kitchen addition which is small (only ~40 sq feet) but might impact-ful!  It allows us to square off our space and will allow so much more functionality.

And the laundry room and powder room downstairs are also getting re-done!  Out with the 1980's in with modern spaces!
