First day of school

 

A great day was had by all. 

 

Slightly emotional for me, but great overall.  We were so proud of him and he was so brave.  He had no problems getting on the bus, or at any point during the day.  Even when we left.  He was fine.  I could tell he was a little nervous, because right before we left, he knew we were going to leave and he came and gave me the biggest hug, a real genuine hug. 

 

What I can tell you is that we were waiting and waiting and waiting for the bus and it was ~15 minutes late.  But, once it got there – it only seemed like 5 seconds and they were off.  I got a few photos, but it went really fast.  We drove to the school and got there before the bus got there (they had more stops to do) and met him there.  We walked him to his “line up spot” and then walked him to class with his teacher.  And before you know it – we were leaving.  Again, fast.  Waiting and waiting and waiting – and then really really really fast. 

 

At pick up tonight he was building Lincoln Logs houses and having a great time.  He told us all about his day and he’s excited to go back tomorrow.  We are so proud of him.

 

Sara had a great day too.  She has the same teachers, who are wonderful, so things were very familiar for her (thank goodness!).  She kept asking about “where brother?”, at kindergarten.  “where kindergarten?”, at Alex’s school.  “where brother’s kindergarten?”, at his school.  repeat, repeat, repeat.  She had a little bit of a hard time when I was leaving her at preschool and needed some extra hugs, totally normal for a week off.  Although,  I think she knew that something was different.  There was no brother at her school anymore.  And she knew it.  I think she really loved having him close by and seeing him on the playground.

Some recents …

 

 

Here are some recent photos I’ve taken.  I’m taking a photography online workshop (Wendy Schultz Photography Workshops) which is challenging and difficult and making me think hard, and practice practice practice.  I’m taking the advanced class (Eeeeekkkk!).  In other words, I love it.  We’re focusing on different angles of light for our first assignment, as well as other aspects. 

 

In other news, Alex is starting kindergarten on September 4th.  Like, it ~ a week.  How did this happen?  Tell me – how did this happen?  We just celebrated his last day of preschool on Friday and there is no school this last week of August.  I’m mentally preparing myself (for like a year now) for his first day.  There will be pictures, for sure – and there will be tears too.  Good thing Alex knows there is such a thing as happy tears.  Cause I’m gonna be using some of them. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Swimming lessons

 

 

Swimming lessons are over for the summer, but boy oh boy – did he have fun!  I can’t wait until next summer, because then we’ll have both kiddos in the pool! 

 

Alex is now swimming doggie-paddle and he is so proud of himself.  We are too!  He is just a fish in the water.  Another Mom that had her daughter in the same class, asked me on the last day of class ‘does he ever be still?’.  Well, no, no he doesn’t ever ‘be still’.  He’s a boy through and through.

 

He does sleep really well during swimming lessons, though, and I wouldn’t have it any other way! 

 

Snow!

 

 

 

 

We had some snow around here recently, about 10” in fact!  Alex was in heaven and this was the first time Sara was walking and had opinions about things.  Alex LOVES the snow.  Sara, not so much.  She would stay out in it until her hands touched too much snow, and then she was done. 

 

The power went out for 12-18 hours and our generator worked perfectly.  We had our gas heat, gas water heater and gas stove to keep us comfy. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sick little Sara

 

 

No fun when you have a fever and don’t feel good – no fun at all!  Sara had another ear infection this past week, two days at home with Mom and Dad. 

 

First day was Doctor appointment and first doses of antibiotics, sleepy and just wanted to lay around, not wanting to eat and not wanting to take Tylenol or any medicine.  Second day home was party time, antibiotics were kicked in, and it was Mom and Dad all alone to play, party, play all day.  She couldn’t go to preschool that day since she had a fever the day before. 

 

Needless to say, we have the ENT(ear nose and throat doctor) appointment scheduled with Children’s Hospital, after 4 ear infections in ~ 4-5 months (and during the summer months, which is not usual).  In the month waiting for the appointment (ENT is very hard to get in to see them), we are expecting another.  Then, in the month to schedule the surgery, another one. 

 

No fun to have to go through all of this, but ear tubes were a miracle with Alex and we are hoping for the same with Sara. 

 

Sara is watching a cartoon in these pictures below, and fell asleep not long into it.  It feels better to sleep leaning up, since laying down flat hurts your ears when you have a bad ear infection. 

 

Wish us luck, another ~ 2 months to wait, but the light at the end of the tunnel (sleep, kid without ear infections) is priceless. 

 

 

 

Meanwhile… We have a slider!

 

 

 

 

While Alex was at swimming lessons, we would often take Sara to the park at the same location. She has a new love for slides. She would climb up, what must be HUGE stairs for her, then go over the bridge, and down the slide. And do it all over again. By the end of the park time, she was sweaty, and having so much fun! And, of course, LOVED the swings too!

pumpkin patch

We visited the pumpkin patch this weekend, and everyone else did too – the place was packed.  The weather was GEORGEOUS!  Sunny, warm (for fall) with a crispness to the air only fall can have.  We had an awesome time looking at all the pumpkins and watching Alex pick out every one he saw – he wanted to take them all home!

 

Alex tried to pick up many many pumpkins, and found this one too be too big for him.  So, he just decided to roll it.

Sara is sitting up now pretty well, so we just put her amongst some pumpkins and she was loving it!  She was just looking all around wondering “what are all these orange things?”

Of course, Alex had to ride a pumpkin…

We had our first pediatrician visit today and here are Sara’s stats (hmmm… tall and skinny – I wonder where she gets this from):

Height: 21 inches (75th%)
Weight: 7 lbs 2 oz (20th%)
Head: 14 inches (45th%)

She is doing everything just normally – just a healthy happy baby.  She has her days and nights mixed up right now and her tummy/gas bothers her at night.  Last few nights have been feedings at 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 1 and then she finally lets me sleep for a bit.  Of course, she is a growing machine right now and that is exactly the way it works – demand increases supply.  But, we are going to be trying to get her outside today and *TRY* to keep her up a bit during the day, instead of being so awake at night.  I would sure appreciate it – instead of staying up all night! 

For fun we took a look at what Alex’s stats – since we were looking at hers:
Alex at 3 years (a big boy – no wonder people mistake him for being 4 years old!)
