Hello preschool

Today Sara starts preschool.

We knew this day would come far too soon, but we know that it’s the right time for her and the right time for us.  We will have both kids at the same place, at least for a year.  We love where Alex is at and now both kids will be there!  We look forward to her growing and learning, making friends, playing, all the preschool kinds of things.  We love that Alex will be there for her, he is such a great big brother (on a side note – when Alex and Sara were with Grandma Connie and Grandpa Steve when Lance and I went to the reunion – Connie was putty Sara to sleep.  But, Alex came in and laid down next to her and told Connie that he would do it and it was time for her to leave.  He did it!  And she fell asleep!)… Truly – what a great big brother.

Here is Sara with Renee, our Nanny’s 2 year old daughter.  I asked Sara to give Renee a hug, one of Sara’s favorite things to do.  Over the last 9 months Sara and Renee have become like sisters.  Sara’s face would light up when Melanie and Renee would show up.  She would do her “happy dance” running back and forth and looking out the window.  They would play at the house, outside or a the park.  They would eat together.  Just two peas in a pod.

She would call her “Nay-Nay” and, during our week off during 4th of July, would often talk about her.

Nay-nay and Melanie will surely be missed.

Amazing understanding

Each evening when I pick Alex up from preschool (the old awful one) he asks the same question...

"Can we go to the new preschool?" (apparently he liked it!)

And I've been saying that we can go soon - just X more days. We've been counting them down each day and saying

"We only have X more days left and then we'll never go there again. Never. And we'll start going to the new preschool."

He is so amazingly understanding about this. He says "OK". Somehow I feel like he understands that we're in a tough position and we just have to last a few more days. Once he knows that it's not permanent - it seems like he's willing to go for just a few more days.

Then, each morning when we get up - it's the same question.

"Can we go to the new preschool today?"

We explain that we only have X number of days left and then we will never go there again.

"And then we'll go to the new preschool?"

"Yep - we'll go to the new preschool and never go to the old preschool again sweetheart"

"OK"

Not counting today (Thursday) we have 3 more days left! YEAH!

What a cute set of photos!

new shoes

Alex got some new shoes this weekend!

These are stage 2 striderite shoes. He needed new shoes becuase the Robeez leather shoes weren't cutting it anymore now that he's walking. He is going out on the playground with the big kids (1-2yr olds) and playing on the wet grass. The leather shoes get wet!
So, $45 later - voila! And size 5! Is it totally insane that an 11 month old has size 5 shoes? I don't know the shoe sizes of other 11 month olds - but it sure seems big to me!
It took him about 30 minutes to figure out how to walk with these new bigger shoes. Then, he was off and walking about as if nothing had happened.

Walking

Yes, walking!

Not just 2-3 steps.

But, across the room.

For a couple of days it was just between Mom and Dad across the room, but now he'll pull himself up and walk towards his toys, away from us!

He played with the big kids this week (the 1-2 year old class) and they are all walking. So, since he'd beed taking steps here and there - this is all the motivation he needed to figure it all out.

We had 2 incident reports last week from him walking and falling and hitting his head on something. He now has 3 bruises on his face and we are predicting many more incident reports in the upcoming weeks.

Our little man - walking!

incident report #56

Yesterday Alex came home with another incident report. This one necessitated a call to Dad minutes after the incident to make sure he didn't need to go home. He was playing at a small toy sink in the classroom and was walking around it. He let go with one hand and slipped turning his arm and hit his head on the sink as he fell.
I think it's a enamel type sink, very heavy. But, just at thier height.
He hit his head and got a big bump and bruise - see picture.
First aid administered: TLC and and ice pack for 5 minutes.
Daycare removed the sink from the classroom.
It's times like these that I feel so guilty for everything. Not being there, not being close enough to daycare, not calling daycare enough, not feeling like I know what he does all day, not loving him enough when we are together, not raising my boy myself, not knowing enough about raising my boy, etc etc etc.
